The young girl let Lauren do most of the talking, mostly smiling and nodding over her shoulder, which left her mind completely free to focus entirely on the cute boy. She could barely contain her excitement that he seemed to have decided that he was in fact going to stay here, at least for a little while. She was so immersed in her thoughts, that she almost didn't notice when she was being spoken to. She jolted and gave a little nod as her cheeks started to warm again, and then she scurried off to fetch that towel, cursing herself under her breath, Damn it, Pay attention! You're making an idiot of yourself!
She stood in the laundry room for a minute to compose herself before returning with the towel Lauren had requested and excusing herself to go work on the concoctions she was meant to be mixing, "I guess I'll see you around Bobby. It was really great to meet you." she smiled sweetly on her way out of the room.

The other woman then added her own compliment onto his so Bobby's hope was fulfilled, Lela got a whole fistful of praise, good for her. He just nodded then the talk got down to business. She asked and he answered some questions about his work background and surprisingly gave him plenty of choices. Or maybe that wasn't so surprising if she was short on help, probably needed people for almost everything. He listened, he was a good listener, well when he wanted to be. Back in high school he had gotten fairly high grades except when he wasn't interested in the subject or the teacher bored him, he stopped listening and the grades then showed it. But here, the more he got into the whole vibe of this place, the more fired up he was to be a part of it...or at least try it out and see. It was worth the effort. OK, truth be told, Lela was worth the effort too!
"Nice to meet you, Lauren," he called by her first name because that's all she gave out so she must be fine with that, besides he had a feeling everything around this place was going to be pretty informal, which was fine with him.
Now as for choices for work, well, he still was unsure about that so...
"Tell you what, as far as a job, what exactly do you need done today, in priority of importance, and you give me that job. And show me how to do it and that's what I'll do then. It gives me a taste of the work and it helps you out being you're short handed," he thought of an idea and pitched it to her.
She needed to have him get settled in, maybe there was a little paperwork involved so she asked if he could follow her into the office. She also asked Lela for a towel and the girl seemed startled out of a daydream or something. God, that surprised look was adorable, Bobby thought.
"Yeah, great meeting you too, Lela. Maybe when our work shifts are over, we could yak for awhile?" he replied to the girl.
Then it was into the office and whatever Lauren needed to get filled out.
"Thanks, I could use some water," he nodded.

Lauren sat back in her chair, wiping her hands on the towel that Lela had brought her before she scurried off and gave the boy an approving grin. He was eager and showing initiative. That was good! "Ya know what Bobby?," she smirked knowingly, "You two seem to be hitting it off pretty well, and I know Lela could use an extra set of hands on concoctory duty today. Why don't I put you with her for today, and she can show you the ropes while I work up your housing paperwork. Just come see me at the end of the day, and we'll get you all settled in."
She pulled a couple bottles of water from the mini fridge behind her desk and slid one across to him. She could use some time in the office anyway, for more than one reason. It was getting fairly hot out there today, and she had a little bit of paperwork that could use some attention. "Can I assume you'll be needing a one bedroom?"

The woman looked pleased enough with his idea or at the very least his willingness to do what he was directed to. She told him he could work with Lela. OK, now that was certainly something he had neither expected nor would he turn down, that much was for certain. Just one little problem...
"Concoctory duty? I will admit I have no idea what that means but it sounds like Lela does so if she can teach it to me, sure I'd be glad to spend the day doing that," Bobby nodded compliance.
Hell, if he was told to spend the whole day sitting on a couch with the other girl watching paint peel on a wall, he'd do it gladly enough.
She slid him a water bottle to which he said, "Thank you."
Twisting the cap off he then swigged some of it, his mouth was dry and it was pretty warm on this bright summer day so the water helped. After pausing from the first gulp he went back for a little more, only a sip this time. The woman had moved on to another order of business, the room.
"Yes, one room should be plenty," he agreed, trying to think of any circumstance where a person would get more than one?

"Oh, of course," Lauren shook her head, remembering that the boy was new here and couldn't be expected to just instinctively know what she was talking about. She was going to have to get the hang of taking those kinds of things into consideration if she was ever going to draw more people into her little community. "Concoctory is just our word for the job of making anything we need around here like shampoo or cleaning supplies. We even make our own non-toxic pest repellent to keep our plants safe," she explained. "Lela has the recipe book, and she will show you what needs to be made and how to make it."
It was a relatively simple task when she thought about it, but it would be a good place to start him off. The way things were going, she was sure he would get a little taste of every kind of work they had, so she didn't worry too much about him getting bored. Even if he did today, he was sure to have something interesting to do tomorrow, and from what she had seen so far, there wasn't too much of a threat in that department anyway.
