After talking with Lauren, he was even more sure that this was the place he had been looking for. He signed the paperwork enthusiastically and headed over to check out the infirmary where he would be spending such vast amounts of his time. Supplies were scarce, but he felt overwhelmingly optimistic. These were the kinds of things the forerunners of medicine had to work with, and they did just fine. Besides, at least a few things in his training would be helpful, like the safer techniques that were becoming standard practice for some procedures. He had knowledge that simply wasn't available in prior years, and a passion for his work. With every breath, he soaked in the country air and reveled in the simplicity of this place. He hadn't felt this carefree in years, even back in Iowa. Though he had only just arrived, Zane knew that he was home.
He sat own in the desk chair that had been provided and pushed himself backwards away from the wall towards his patient table. Running his hand along the crisp linen sheet, he smiled quietly to himself. This was exactly where he wanted to be.
